We had our gender reveal party last Saturday and it was a lot of fun! A lot of work (as all parties are)…but A LOT of fun! =) Jason and I already knew the gender, because we couldn’t carve out a free day for our reveal party until almost 2 weeks after our ultrasound and we didn’t want to wait that long! (If you are planning a May baby, think about that! You’ll need a date for your gender reveal right in the middle of the busiest time of the year! Haha)
I scheduled the party for 2 pm and kept the menu pretty simple. Even keeping it simple, it still takes a while to gather everything up and haul it to your location. Thankfully, my parents and brother came and helped me out. They are seriously the best! I found most of my ideas on pinterest. Since I excel in the sciences not the arts, it didn’t turn out quite as pretty as my pinterest boards but I was still happy =).
We decided to go with the cake as our “reveal” – not the most original I know, but it was too cold to do anything that required going outside (silly string, paint, etc) and our space was limited for something bigger like a balloon release. I made a simple white cake and dyed it blue. Then I decorated the outside half pink and half blue using a 1M tip (super easy, tutorial HERE). I finished it off with a cute “boy or girl?” cake topper from amazon.
For all the chocolate cake lovers, I made a batch of my favorite chocolate cupcakes (recipe here) and topped them with pink and blue frosting.
We had two tables – a pink table and a blue table. I tried to have all the foods be either pink or blue. There really aren’t that many naturally blue foods though! It was tough!
I made these cream cheese mints and dyed half pink and half blue. I’ll post the recipe in a separate post later this week…so easy! (Recipe HERE) And you can make them days (or weeks) ahead of time so added bonus!
I made some of my favorite Rolled Sugar Cookies and kept the decorating to a minimum. They are always a hit!
I dipped some pretzel rods in white chocolate – half pink, half blue of course ;). Again, something that can be made a couple day in advance. It’s very important that you don’t have a menu full of items that require last minute attention.
I had a couple trays of fruit too with some fruit dip. One “blue” tray with blackberries, blueberries, and black grapes and one “pink” tray with strawberries, raspberries, watermelon, and grapefruit.
I didn’t want to have all sweets, so I rounded out the menu with some blue corn tortilla chips and salsa, deviled eggs (dyed pink and blue), homemade popcorn (in these cute little boxes!) and bacon wrapped smokies <– totally not pink or blue but so, so good!
We also had punch and water. I used this simple recipe for pink punch and it was good – maybe not the best punch ever but again, EASY! See a theme here??
I kept the table decorations simple too. I made a BIG batch of white chocolate chex mix (recipe here). I used pink and blue M&Ms. I bagged it up and tied it up with some pink and blue ribbon. Table decoration AND party favors! I also colored a few mini Hershey bars for a little added color.
We also had a voting station at the entrance with this poster and some “team pink” or “team blue” stickers. I also had a jar full of pink and blue hershey’s kisses and let people guess how many. The winner took the candy home!
That must be exciting for you guys to have a boy! My wife just found out that she is pregnant. I’ll have to prepare ourselves until we get the ultrasound confirmation.
