If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time you are probably well aware of my love affair with brownies =). They’re pretty much my go-to dessert if I want something quick and easy. I haven’t had much energy to bake lately, but last weekend I needed a chocolate fix ;). I’d had a chocolate malt brownie recipe bookmarked for months and it seemed like the perfect time to try it out. Unfortunately, the spirit was willing but the flesh was weak so I reached for a box mix instead. If you’ve got all kinds of time and energy, then by all means make your brownies from scratch. I’m sure they’d be even better, but Ghirardelli brownies mixes are pretty tasty =). And when you add some malted milk powder and crushed Whoppers, well, they’re even better! I’ve never had a chocolate malt but if they taste anything like these brownies I think I need to try one! Enjoy!

Chocolate Malt Brownies
for the brownies:
18 oz Ghirardelli brownie mix
1/4 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 egg
2/3 cup malted milk powder (I used Carnation brand)
2/3 cup crushed malted milk ball candy (aka Whoppers)

for the topping:
1/4 cup malted milk powder
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tbsp butter, room temperature
1-2 tbsp milk
1/2 cup crushed malted milk ball candy

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray 9 inch square pan with non-stick spray.
2. In large bowl, combine brownie mix, water, oil, egg, and malted milk powder. Stir until combined. Gently fold in crushed malted milk ball candy.
3. Pour into greased pan. Bake for 38-41 minutes or until center is almost set. Be careful not to overbake.
4. Cool until just barely warm. In small bowl, whisk together butter, milk powder, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth. Pour over brownies. Sprinkle with crushed candy.
