Ever since Jordan got this blender for Christmas, I’ve been a smoothie making machine ;). I have always loved smoothies but this new blender has made it so convenient that I’ve been making them a lot more frequently–like every other day! Jordan only uses it for his protein shakes, and so I’ve probably been using it more than he has. Remember this frozen hot chocolate or the green monster smoothie? And those are just the ones that have made it to the blog =).
Last weekend I was looking for something to eat for breakfast and decided I was tired of my usual granola bar. I still wanted something healthy though and thought about a spinach smoothie…but I didn’t have any spinach. I did have oranges though! I’d never used the whole orange in a smoothie before, but it was really good. I just removed all the membranes and pith and added it to the blender. Then I tasted it and thought it needed a little something else. And in went the mango–just what it needed. Yum! If you don’t like mango, pineapple would be a good substitute. I happen to like my smoothies to be so thick you almost have to eat them with a spoon, which is why I add ice. However, Jordan doesn’t like his smoothies to be so “icy” so if you are like him just reduce or eliminate the ice. You could also replace the milk and ice with yogurt, which will give you a creamier smoothie. Enjoy!
Orange Mango Smoothie
2/3 cup frozen mango, chopped
1/2 cup skim milk
1 cup crushed ice
1 orange, peeled and segmented with membrane and pith removed
1/4 cup orange juice
Combine all ingredients in blender and pulse until smooth.
