I’m one of those strange people who doesn’t like hot drinks. I love the flavor of hot chocolate but then always end up chasing it with ice water, so when I saw a recipe for frozen hot chocolate it definitely caught my eye. Doesn’t it sort of look like a Wendy’s frosty? I thought so, and since I’ve yet to meet a milkshake or frosty that I didn’t like I headed to the kitchen. The first time I tried it I didn’t add any chocolate syrup, but I thought that it could use a little extra sweetness and chocolate flavor so the second time I added a little chocolate syrup–much better! Not as rich as a milkshake but a good way to get your chocolate fix without too much guilt. If you wanted more of a milkshake you could certainly add a scoop (or two!) of vanilla ice cream ;). Enjoy!
Frozen Hot Chocolate
3/4-1 cup crushed ice
1 packet hot chocolate mix
1/2 cup skim milk
2 tbsp cool-whip or whipped cream (plus more for garnish)
1/2-1 tbsp chocolate syrup (plus more for garnish)
mini chocolate chips
Combine in blender and pulse until smooth. Garnish with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and chocolate chips.
*Some hot chocolate packets are for 6 oz of water/milk, while others call for 8 oz. If your mix calls for 6 oz, use closer to 3/4 cup ice. I also used a reduced sugar mix (because that’s all I had on hand) and it was still delicious.
