I know it’s not really the season for apple pie, but all this hot weather has me in the mood for fall! So I decided I’d make an apple pie anyway! Apples are one of my favorite fruits and they’re even better sandwiched between two layers of flaky pie crust ;). I’ve tried lots of different apple pie recipes, but I always come back to this one. It’s simple. Not a lot of steps or ingredients, but that’s why I like it.

Some of you may remember my Grandma’s Fried Apple Pies. She’s makes the best fried apple pies, but she also makes a mean apple pie =). This is her recipe. This pie is also my mom’s favorite pie and apparently the rest of my family likes it pretty good too since we ate almost the whole pie in one sitting! The hardest (but not really hard, only time consuming) part is making the crust, but trust me – homemade crust is so worth it! I know you’ll love this pie – and your house will smell amazing while it bakes. Enjoy!

Apple Pie
4 cups sliced apples
1 tsp cinnamon
4 tbsp melted butter, divided
1/2 cup + 1/3 cup sugar
1/8 tsp salt
pie crust for 9 inch double crusted pie

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Combine 3 tbsp butter, cinnamon, salt, and sugar. Add apples and toss to combine.
3. Place bottom crust in 9 inch pie pan. Fill with apples and cover with top crust.  Seal edges.
4. Baste top crust with remaining melted butter and sprinkle with ~1 tbsp sugar.
5. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue to bake for 50 minutes more or until golden brown.
Note: You may want to place a cookie sheet beneath your pie after about 30 minutes. Depending on how juicy your apples are, it may bubble over into the oven and make a mess…not that this has ever happened to me or anything ;).
